Description |
Makah basket for sale or gift. It has a plaited cedar bark bottom, cross-warped twining (birdcage). Made of grass (western sweetgrass). Extended Visual Description Roughly rectangular Makah basket. Basket bottom is made of wide woven strips of bark. The body is made of alternate strips of bark with "slats" holding it in on both sides, and diagonally crossing and secured openwork. There are two areas of openwork. Around each "slat" area there is a row of green edging. Some of the slats are lost or broken, especially at the bottom corners. |
