Description |
Picking basket. Coiled split cedar root with oval start results in an oval basket; no ears; beginning about 1/4 up from bottom cornhusk used in place of beargrass in alternating diagonals for design. Unusual to find cornhusk used in imbrication or coiled basket. Extended Visual Description Object is a high sided brown basket. Design is diagonal rectangles in medium brown and white. Rim is intact and a twisted leather strip is interwoven around three quarters of the rim, broken is one area. Two raised loops on opposite sides and two loops below rim on back side, and one loop near bottom on front side. On front, some of brown rectangles are missing and or broken. Most of color is intact with some cracking. Coiled construction. Inside is darker (probably from use). Basket has been stiffened. A few small holes inside bottom. |
