Basket used to carry berries by means of a tump line, out of picking area or to wear tied to waist by a tall picker. There are cotton "hop" string loops around top with part. Coiled cedar root basket with oval start and form; no decoration; side carried toward back is flat compared to more rounded outside, as on some other carrying baskets. Very well used and berry stained. Extended Visual Description Tall and open threaded straw basket with netting pattern along the rim and leather loops on one side. The loops are 6cm long and 5cm wide and the netting has a piece that sticks out of the rim, reaching .7cm x 23cm at the longest it gets, though it is coiled. The netting is along the whole rim with a knot pattern every 5cm and there is a section of the tangled nets where the netting stretches down to the side outside. There is a handle loop 1cm from the base made of leather that is 9cm in height with a strand of netting with it that is 5.5cm in eight with a width of 3.4cm. The inside has the back side of each netting and leather. The threading on the inside slighter than tan for the first 4cm before getting progressively darker and darker as it goes down until the base is a distinctly darker brown than the rest of the inside. The half of the rim opposite the two leather loops is 1cm higher than the other half. The threading along the sides is mostly uniform in tan coloring and pattern of design but some spots slant upward or downward according to the manner in which it was threaded. |
