Description |
Oval basket with lid. Wrapped twined basket having plaited cedar bark bottom, natural and colored edge of sweetgrass being weft element on bottom, colored beargrass accentuating base of basket, middle of basket depicting whaling expedition and ducks, edge of lid has same complimentary layers of colored beargrass as base of basket and same whaling motif and duck. Extended Visual Description Object is an oval basket with lid. Lid is warped and fits over basket edge. No damage. Designs of green, red, and tans lines around lower edge. and red and green lines with bird and canoe motifs on lid. Basket has woven center on bottom with a rounded weave surrounding. Purple alternating rows on bottom. Sides are of tan background, with red and green lines near bottom, red line with motif of birds and canoes on it and another red line above. Rim of basket sits on a slat that supports rim. Colors somewhat faded outside, vibrant inside. |
