Description |
Thompson River basket with lid, round. Hard coiled basket using cedar root bundle foundation and stitching; Imbricated designs on basket consist of dark dyed cherry bark, natural cherry bark, and beargrass. Flat lid with knob for handle also imbricated of same material. Extended Visual Description Object is round, bulging slightly below rim. Basket is brown with red/brown, white, dark brown diamonds at top, middle and base. Some of the color is breaking off of one top diamond. Using this diamond as reference point, there is an area of staining (gray to black) opposite inside base. There are also several points just to left and slightly lower where there may have been leather handles, as there are strips of leather inside that correspond with what is poking through outside. Lid sits inside top of basket with knob on top which is decorated and is middle of a star pattern. Outside part of lid has diamonds. |
