Description |
Round twined basket with braided handle, likely made for sale. Chehalis. Made of cattail stalks, tule and thread of twisted cattail leaves. The basket is decorated with beargrass in natural and dyed yellow and orange also cedar bark dyed black. Dimensions top dia cm: 23, bottom dia. cm: 15.25, height cm: 20.25 Extended Visual Description Loosely woven basket with handle. The rows on the body are about 1 cm to 1.5cm apart. The warp material appears to be reeds, some dyed decoratively black (or dark purple) and some dyed orange. Some weft pieces are also black. The rim is plaited as is the handle. Warp leans to the left and does not stand straight up. |
