Description |
Northwest carved halibut hook, also known as náxw in Tlingit and ýagw táawaay in Haida. The hook has a curved wooden shank at the end where a piece of metal is attached. Extended Visual Description Carved wooden halibut hook. One side of the hook has a carved bird head with a narrow neck and a ridged back and two legs. The head has large circular eyes. There is a hole carved at the top of the head about the size of a penny. There is also the remains of rope through the neck of the bird head. The other side is uncarved, but has a nail bound to it with bark. The two sides are made from two pieces of wood and bound together as one end in two places by a bark(?) binding. The general shape of the hook is that of a V. |
