Description |
Coiled Basket for Berry picking. Eastern Wash, Klickitat, 19th century. This basket is of cedar root coiled on a three rod foundation. The imbricated beargrass design is almost completely worn off. The basket has been mended with cedar root. It has been much used for berry picking. Rod foundation is of cedar root. Height 12 in. Dia at top 9.75in x 7.75 in (somewhat flattened). Dia at bottom. 5 x 3.75. Extended Visual Description Object is a brown high sided basket. It is stiffened. Shows much use. Design is hardly noticeable. Basket appears to be scorched inside and one light colored section seems to be weakened. Near bottom are two areas that have been repaired. Rim is broken in several places. |
