Description |
Basket made of split spruce root, with design in false embroidery of beargrass (white) upper right or "S" pitch stitches; False embroidery over red/black dyed spruce root. Small tightly woven fibers; two decorative bands with alternating motif - black and red with two light stripes; Round, flat bottomed; Rim is starting to become detached, ripping body of basket, very brittle. Extended Visual Description Basket with flat round bottom which widens toward the top. The bottom has a "checked" pattern of red and tan. There are two bands of decoration on the basket. These have a background of alternating blocks of red and black, with two sets of three rows of tan alternating vertically on the blocks. The tan is embroidered on top of the blocks/does not show on the reverse side. The colors are faded and there is dust on the inside. The rim is broken and more than half detached from the body of the basket. The top seems to be warping out of shape. |
