The wood was identified by Arther Koehler, expert of the United States forest products laboratory. The piece was taken from a log encountered when a United States reclamation service tunnel was being driven. It was a solid basalt, believed to have been poured out of the Columbia Plateau volcanoes 12,000,000 years ago. |
