Description |
Birch bark basket from the Shuswap/Secwépemc in British Columbia. Extended Visual Description This is a birch bark basket with a leather strap and straw (grass?) stitching. This basket is brown on the exterior and tan on the interior. The exterior of the basket is refined and smooth, while the interior is coarse and cracking in areas. On the shorter sides of the basket, you can see the folding pattern used to stitch the ends of the basket together. The basket comes to four points on the bottom and when free standing, it only rests on two. The rim of the basket consists of some sort of stick used for structural support and is surrounded by straw stitching that is woven around it. There is a knot in the bark on one of the long sides. |
